Mental Health
One of the main confusions with young people is how to treat friends or family with mental health. The subject is very briefly covered in school which most of the public disagree with. They believe young people should be taught to understand the signs of mental illness and how to interact and treat people who are suffering. Research has found that mental health is caused in young people through bullying and stereotypes in schools and collages so allowing student to study and learn could reduce bullying and increase understanding of the topic which is always skipped over. 1 in 4 people are affected by mental health and 8.6 million adults and young people have suicidal thoughts so why is this subject not covered in schools?
The royal family have decided to combat the stigma of mental health 20 years after the death of Princess Diana. However, the royal family cannot get involved in political issues but have informed the public that they wish to battle the stigma. Thus, showing that mental health can affect everyone and therefore, brings me back to my main point that mental health is a subject that should be addressed in school to help reduce the stigma.
Furthermore, when treating someone with mental health issues you should:
  • Socialise with them
  • Let them know that they aren’t alone and that they can talk to you or a professional
  • If they talk to you acknowledge how they are feeling
  • Share your own feelings to reduce the person from being defensive
  • Do not ask them about their mental health unless they initiate the topic of conversation
Mental Health is a serious issue that can end in horrible ways and this why we should stop now and change the stigma of mental health before it becomes to late.

Snapchat Update
Now let's discuss a major issue that has occurred between young people … the snapchat update. The creators of snapchat, a social media app that involves sending photos or videos to friends and family. Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown decided they wanted to change the way users could see "Stories" and the layout of the app. "Stories" are pictures or videos users post that other users can see which is one of the main parts of the app. Many users were outraged by the update to the point where they removed the app from their phone because it was "too much of a change". Many users have also sent angry tweets to snapchat reporting that the app now " looks disgusting and is the worse thing they had ever seen". The creators of snapchat hoped that users would "enjoy it once they settle in" but since the update, many users have been petitioning for the app to return to its original layout. However, some users like the update due to it making stories "easier to access and making the app simple to use". But these users are in the minority.
In addition, previous snapchat updates have involved the creation of snap maps which is an extra to the app. Snap Maps allows users to see where other users are by showing their "Bitmoji" on a searchable map. The map is accurate enough to allow users to see where their "friends" live and users can see other user's "stories" if publicly posted. This addition to the app created worry, especially for parents of younger children, however, it is an optional feature that can be turned on and off. This first world problem has caused debates between young people and adults. So, why is the topic of conversation between young people? Is it really that important? And is it important enough to effect young people's education?

Serious Script - Mental Heath Awareness

When performing this script I decided to lower my tone and have a more serious tone. This is appropriate for this script because its adds to the emotion and it also helps to put the point I am trying to convey across to the audience. I also changed my vocals so I used more pauses in the report. I did this because i wanted the listener to understand everything I was saying and to be able to take in all the information. Going back to tone i stayed in quite a serious tone throughout the report and didn't use any variation of tone or melody. I also attempted to slow down my pace because my natural speed I talk would be too quick and could be scene as disrespectful. Furthermore, i tried to slow down my pace so the report didn't seem rushed and so that i didn't mumble my words. In addition, i also did it to allow the listener to understand everything i was saying. I also feel I put emphasis on certain words and phrase such as, "so why is this subject not covered in schools". This helps to the listener thinking about the topic at hand.

Light-Hearted Script - Snapchat Update

When performing this script I let loose on my vocal techniques to some extent. For example, I didn't pay much attention to my tone, the pauses I took or the pace of my speech, This is because the subject I am talking about is quite light-hearted and fun but with some serious aspects. Being more relaxed on my tone also meant that I spoke in  more natural and casual conversational tone which I feel would help get my point across about the update but would show that it isn't too serious through the tone I used. I used a fast pace with no pauses because my vocals are a lot lively and the topic is light hearted so therefore i don't have to be serious and use a slower tone. Also if the topic was serious i would use a slower pace so the listener would be able to take in and understand everything I say however, because it is light-hearted I don't need to talk in a slow pace. The pace was faster so therefore, it could be seen as more fun and silly. I used a lot of emphasis on certain words such as, the first time i say "the snapchat update" this makes the mood more light-hearted and fun compared to the more serious script and it also makes the script more interesting to listen to.
